Welcome to Ko Sutemi West
BLACK BELTS!

Jessica Ladd Michael Carper Matthew Carper

Thursday, February 25th, 2010 we had the distinct pleasure of promoting Jessica Ladd, Michael Carper, and Matthew Carper to Shodan Black Belt. For close to 4 years, they have been with KSW from the very beginning and have worked very hard for this day to come. In a surprise ceremony filled with family and friends they were each promoted to Black Belt and given a Katana(Japanese for sword). As any black belt will tell you, this is not the end of the road, merely the beginning of the journey; one filled with hard work and many rewards along the way.

We would like to congratulate Jessica, Michael, and Matthew on their Black Belts. May you always remember the way of of the Seiei Kan and may your journey be filled with many pleasant stops.

Pictures from the ceremony are posted here or by clicking on "Photo Galleries" in the left menu.

For many years the "Ko Sutemi Seiei Kan" has been feared for its prowess in the ring and respected for the expertise of its members. The "Seiei Kan" has indeed been widely recognized by the world as a leader in the Karate Circuit. The meaning of Ko Sutemi Seiei Kan is this:

Ko Sutemi: Success by any means.
Seiei: Elite or pick of the best.
Kan: Perception or intuition.

In our system we emphasize the learning of traditional "kata" (ancient pre-arranged sequence of movements utilizing all of the techniques and stances) often called the "Art" in Martial Arts. Kata is the mark of any traditional karate school.
